TENT house for contemporary circus

I am Jakob Jacobsson, born in Sweden in 1989, moved through France and the UK and currently based in Rotterdam after finishing a bachelor at Codarts Circus Arts. Besides working on the solo project Insomnia (working title), I am also busy with two companies, Revue Regret, which is touring with Dear Doubts, and The Nordic Council,  and The Nordic Council who premiered their second full-length show Häppy Hour in February 2024.

As an aerialist and circus artist I’m interested in the use of negative space, suspension, and the integration of light design as an integral part of my circus creations. I’m curious about time as a sensation, as something visceral that we experience on a physical level. My works tend to be visually sparse.

My first encounter with TENT was way back in 2015, when I presented a short rope piece for Back to Base. Since then, I’ve had the pleasure of attending several shows, workshops, and gatherings. During the research week, the goal is to research the connecting point between light design and circus. To explore what light design can provide when it is used for more than just illumination. For this purpose, Nico de Rooij, light designer, will be joining me in the studio. Together we will experiment with stroboscopes, light effects, and placement to emphasise the intrinsic relationship between the two art forms.
